Background of the Study

Information Technology (IT) governance plays a critical role in aligning an organization’s IT strategy with its business objectives, ensuring that IT investments are effectively utilized to drive performance (Adewale & Oloruntoba, 2023). In the banking sector, the increasing reliance on technology for services such as digital banking, payment systems, and financial transactions makes IT governance essential for achieving operational efficiency, risk management, and customer satisfaction (Olusola & Abiola, 2024). Proper IT governance frameworks ensure that banks maintain security, compliance with regulations, and the effective use of technology in meeting business goals.

In Kano State, where the banking industry is rapidly growing, IT governance structures are being adopted by banks to improve service delivery and meet the demands of modern banking. However, the relationship between IT governance and organizational performance in these banks has not been extensively studied. This study seeks to investigate the impact of IT governance on the performance of banks in Kano State.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing reliance on technology in the banking sector, many banks in Kano State still struggle with aligning their IT strategies with their organizational goals. Ineffective IT governance frameworks can lead to inefficiencies, security breaches, and regulatory compliance issues, negatively affecting overall performance (Gbenga & Fasoro, 2023). This study will explore the role of IT governance in ensuring that banks in Kano State optimize their IT systems to improve organizational performance and overcome the challenges they face in this regard.
